Tunnel of Remembrance Opens in Austria

04 Nov

After ten years of preparations, the Tunnel of Remembrance was opened in Steyr, Upper Austria, on 23 October.

The 140 meters long tunnel that has served earlier as an air-shelter was constructed amid inhuman conditions by the inmates of the Steyr concentration camp in 1943. The exhibition, displaying the history of the Steyr concentration camp that functioned as a sub-camp of Mauthausen, was visited by 1200 people on the first day following the opening.

The Tunnel is open to individual visitors only on the following dates in 2014 from 10 am to 2 pm:

March 8, May 1, September 28, October 4 and October 26.

Group visits should be coordinated with the museum:

Museum Arbeitswelt Steyr

Wehrgrabengasse 7

4400 Steyr
