The Holocaust Memorial Center is a public institution that was established by the Government in 1999. The construction of the Memorial Center began in 2002 on Páva Street, outside of the traditional Jewish Quarter, which further emphasized the Memorial’s national character.

The Holocaust Memorial Center is one of the few state-founded institutions in the world that focuses entirely on Holocaust research and education.

Visitors are welcomed into a unique space. The modern building is organically linked to the Páva Street Synagogue, an authentic venue that once used to be the second largest site for Jewish worship in Budapest.

The institution is a center for scientific research, education, and culture. The Memorial Center offers visitors interactive permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as museum educational and cultural programs. Guided tours are available in multiple languages.
