Churches in a period of political transition

18 Oct

The Holocaust Museum and the Pázmány Péter Catholic University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences cordially invites you to
Churches in a period of political transition
International conference – Holocaust Memorial Centre, Budapest

In the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the collapse of the state socialist political regimes and the subsequent disintegration of the federal state formations (Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union) marked the beginning of a new democratic era. The economic difficulties of the transition quickly gave rise to insecurity. The conference will discuss the social role of the churches during the years of political transition.
We aim to cover a wide time span from the second half of the 1980s to the 2000s; however, we do not intend to present and evaluate current political events or legislations. Our speakers will present the distinctive features of the perceptions of the churches’ role, their scope of action, and their adaptability to modern political systems.

Date
6-7 November, 2024.

Location
1094 Budapest, 39. Páva street

The conference will be held in English with Hungarian interpretation.
