Absztrakt

A recenzió Andrea Kirchner Richard Lichtheimről szóló politikai életrajzát mutatja be, amely egy jelentős, de mára kevéssé ismert cionista vezető pályáját rekonstruálja. A kötet részletesen feltárja Lichtheim diplomáciai tevékenységét, a korai cionista mozgalomban betöltött szerepét, valamint holokauszt alatti genfi munkáját. Különösen fontos a könyv elemzése arról, miként jutottak el a népirtásról szóló információk a cionista szervezetekhez és a nyugati döntéshozókhoz. A mű magyar vonatkozású jelentőségét az adja, hogy Lichtheim közvetve szerepet játszott a budapesti zsidók mentését szolgáló palesztinai certifikátprogram kialakulásában.

The review presents Andrea Kirchner’s political biography of Richard Lichtheim, an influential yet largely forgotten Zionist leader. Based on extensive archival research, the book reconstructs Lichtheim’s diplomatic career, his role within the Zionist movement, and his activities in Geneva during the Holocaust. A central contribution of the volume is its analysis of how knowledge about the genocide reached Zionist institutions and Western political actors. The book is also relevant to Hungarian history, highlighting Lichtheim’s indirect contribution to rescue initiatives that later supported the protection of thousands of Jews in Budapest.
