Dr. Erdély Ernő tűzoltó parancsnok
Dr. Erdély Ernő Pollák Ede hentes és Fleischmann Rozália gyermekeként született Győrben. A jogi egyetem után a tűzoltótiszt-képző tanfolyamot is elvégezte, amelynek megreformálása a nevéhez köthető. Szakmájában elismert parancsnokként igazgatói tagja lett a Magyar Tűzoltótisztek Egyesületének, jó barátságot ápolt gróf Széchenyi István fiával Ödönnel, “a tűzoltó pasával”. A győri társadalmi elit egyik meghatározó alakjaként aktív szerepet vállalt szülővárosában. 1919-től a hitközség elnöke, majd 1930-tól alelnöke. Tagja volt az Országos Gyorsíró Egyesület választmányának, mindemellett a Győri Színházi Lap szerkesztésében is részt vett. Verseket, novellákat írt, 55 évesen irodalomból doktorált. Sportszeretetéről tanúskodik, hogy elvállalta a Dunántúli Atlétikai Club elnöki, majd az MLSZ alelnöki feladatait, sőt még a labdarúgó-bírói tanfolyamot is elvégezte. A kivételes tehetségű polihisztort feleségével együtt 1944-ben Auschwitzban gyilkolták meg.
Dr. Ernő Erdély, fire chief
Dr. Ernő Erdély was born in Győr as the son of butcher Ede Pollák and Rozália Fleischmann.
After completing his law degree, he also graduated from the fire officer training course, the reform of which is associated with his name. As a highly respected commander in his profession, he became a board member of the Association of Hungarian Fire Officers and maintained a close friendship with Count Ödön Széchenyi, son of Count István Széchenyi, known as “the firefighter pasha.” As a prominent figure of Győr’s social elite, he took an active role in his hometown. From 1919 he served as president, and from 1930 as vice president, of the local Jewish community. He was also a member of the executive committee of the National Shorthand Association and contributed to the editing of the Győri Színházi Lap (Győr Theatre Journal). A man of broad intellectual interests, he wrote poetry and short stories and earned a doctorate in literature at the age of 55. His passion for sports was evident in his work as president of the Transdanubian Athletic Club and later as vice president of the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ); he even completed a football refereeing course. The exceptionally talented polymath was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944, together with his wife.
