A győri holokausztemlékmű avató ünnepsége az országos megemlékező események kiemelt része volt. A magyar rádió is kitelepült a köztársasági elnök beszédének a közvetítése céljából. Az ünnepségsorozat 1947. június 14-én, szombaton este kezdődött meg a zsinagógában dr. Róth Emil mártírhalált halt győri főrabbira emlékező istentisztelettel. A vidéki zsidóság elhurcolására emlékezve június 15-én került sor a zsidó temetőben felállított emlékmű felavatására, amelynek programját a napisajtó is közölte. Budapestről különvonat hozta a vészkorszakban meggyilkoltak hozzátartozóit Győrbe. A délelőtti istentisztelet után az ünnepségen résztvevők menete az egykori gettó előtt elhaladva a városháza közbeiktatásával a győrszigeti zsidó temetőbe tartott. A hatóságok képviselői a városháza előtti téren várták Tildy Zoltán köztársasági elnököt és a kormány tagjait. Tildy a városháza dísztermében tartott beszédet a túlélőknek. A megemlékezés a temetőben folytatódott. Tildy Zoltán ezt követően olyan győri gyárakat látogatott meg, amelyeknek zsidó alapítóik voltak: a Koestlin-gyárat, a Vagongyárat és a Richards-gyárat.
What was the inauguration ceremony like?
The dedication ceremony for the Holocaust memorial in Győr was a highlight of the nationwide commemorative events. Hungarian Radio also set up a broadcast site to cover the President’s speech. The series of ceremonies began on the evening of Saturday, June 14, 1947, at the synagogue with a service commemorating Dr. Emil Róth, the Chief Rabbi of Győr who died a martyr’s death. In remembrance of the deportation of the rural Jewish community, the unveiling of the memorial erected in the Jewish cemetery took place on June 15, and the program was also reported in the daily press. A special train brought the relatives of people – murdered during the Holocaust – from Budapest to Győr. After the morning service, the procession of participants in the ceremony passed in front of the former ghetto and, with a stop at City Hall, proceeded to the Jewish cemetery on Győrsziget. Representatives of the authorities awaited President Zoltán Tildy and members of the government in the square in front of City Hall. Tildy delivered a speech to the survivors in the ceremonial hall of City Hall. The commemoration continued at the cemetery. Zoltán Tildy then visited factories in Győr that had been founded by Jews: the Koestlin Factory, the Carriage Factory, and the Richards Factory.
