Mi az az iparos jesíva?

A századfordulóig visszavezetehető kérdés az orthodox sajtóban, hogy kell-e a talmudiskolai tanulmányokkal párhuzamosan szakmát, kisipari tudást adni a bóhereknek, vagy majd ki-ki megszerzi azt a maga útján a jesívatanulmányok után. Az iparosjesívák mellett szóló érvelés a recessziós időszakok nehézségeire, a megélhetés problémáira alapozott: talmudtudás és tanulási módszer mellett konkrét megélhetést adtak volna a fiatal férfiak kezébe. A hagyományos rendszer átalakítása viszont olyan súlyú kérdés volt, amiben az orthodox lapszerkesztőségek nem mertek állást foglalni, csupán fórumot biztosítottak a különböző véleményeknek.

What does “industrial craftsman yeshiva” mean?

The question in the Orthodox press, which can be traced back to the turn of the century, was whether the bochers should be given a trade, a craft, alongside their Talmudic studies, or whether they should acquire it on their own after their studies in the Yeshiva. The argument in favour of industrial yeshivas was based on the difficulties of recessionary times and the problems of making a living: in addition to Talmudic knowledge and a method of learning, they would have put a concrete livelihood in the hands of young men. But the transformation of the traditional system was an issue on which the orthodox newspaper editors did not dare to take a stand, but merely provided a forum for differing opinions.
